Did you know that Sound Sultan was one of the very few Afrobeats acts who ran an uninterrupted 20 years of relevance from 2000 till he left us.
In fact only 3 other acts have done this starting from 2000.
As an actor, director, playwright , musician, much more than his colleagues, he mingled the most with the rest of the entertainment industry.
But did you also know that Sultan was the only one amongst all of them who has never had a public altercation with anybody inside or outside this industry?
“Kuku google am” all you want. You won’t find one case of a known face off with Sultan & any one.
Does that mean that he was a hermit? Nope. In fact because of his calm state he faced more than the usual industry causes of feud.
Sultan had been through h*ll with ungrateful proteges, Sultan had colleagues badmouth him to take jobs, Sultan had business partners steal his vision. He had money taken off him and had many offend him personally.
So why didn’t we ever hear Sound Sultan’s voice on the streets dragging anyone or being dragged?
That’s exactly why I’m doing this post. It was for two reasons. Two great lessons I learned from him.
Reason number one. Sultan never tried to match anybody’s negative energy at any point. Restrain was a super power of his
Nobody could instigate Sultan enough to react with the intensity of your action. He was so okay with you thinking you won. Never saw him waste emotion for one day
His processing structure was an unmovable one. Nothing went in and came out the same from Sultan. It must be chewed upon. You would never receive it as fast as you gave it to him. Many times you will never receive it at all. He invented “no comment”
The second reason was that he was a man of few words. He was powerfully conscious of the use of a tongue. Very mindful about the content, frequency and timing with its use.
The second safest place in the world to keep a secret, outside your head is in Sultan’s hands. Not even an armored tank to his head would cause a leak. Sultan was anything but flippant.
There you go Talk less and never engage unnecessarily. watch the peace you know grow.
Today the 11th is exactly 40 months sInce he left us
