Movie giants and stakeholders of the Africa’s movie industry gathered at The Sheraton Lagos, venue of this year’s Africa Movies Academy Awards.
It’s the 20th Anniversary Edition of the awards.
The Red Carpet was well graced by Actors, producers, Executive Producers, friends and well wishers of AMAA. Fred Amata, Rita Dominic, Jackie Appiah, Keppy Ekpenyong-Bassey, Moji Oyetayo, Chidi Nwokeabia, Nobert Young, Kingsley OmoEfe, Jude Chukwuka, and Kenyan actress Nyokabi Macharia are among the prominent faces in attendance.
The hosts of the event, Segun Arinze and Josephine Dumas specially led the audience in a memorial session in remembrance of Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, the founder and CEO of AMAA.
Highlight of the Award is the celebration of Femi Adebayo who won the award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in his action packed epic movie, Jagun Jagun.
The award audience was thrilled to great music by some of Nigeria’s best artistes and dancers including Yinka Davies and Femi Kuti.
AMAA has been recognised as the most credible movie award in Africa. It’s winners are held in high esteem and well respected.
The 12-member jury committee is well selected, including people with integrity, experience and knowledge of arts, culture and filmmaking.
They include filmmaker and writer Dorothee Wenner, former Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture in Lagos, Steve Ayorinde, Shaibu Hussain, and the DG National Film And Movie Censors Board. There’s no doubt their judgement can be seen to be right.
